Rob the Rhino

Getting Started Always use your imagination and be creative when building these kids crafts or any others. It's your creation, so be inventive when looking for building supplies — you just may be surprised! When building your project, experiment with new and different ways of putting it together. The most important thing is to have fun!

Find these or similar supplies! • Plastic container • Masking tape or colored art tape • Cork (four pieces) • Some old cardboard or construction paper • Markers or pens for customizing

1. Let's get started! The first step to making this cool rhino is attaching your cork legs. I simply taped mine on. My container had flat angles. If your container is round you will need to cut the corks at an angle so that the legs will fit on the sides.

2. Make Rob's Horn! This was very simple. All I did was make a paper cone and then cut the pointed end off. I spent a little time cutting and trimming the bottom off so that it fit nice and had a slight forward angle.

3. Make parts for Rob's Face! The next step is drawing out all of your parts. You will need a pair of eyes, ears, nostrils and a tail. This is a good time to draw and cut out different designs, trying them out by holding them in place. Once I had the designs I liked I spent a little time remaking them and carefully cutting them out.

4. More body parts! Now you can tape on your eyes, ears, nostrils and a tail. And the most important part, Rods horn. Try holding up the features to get everything the way you like it. Then tape them in place

5. Finished! The simple version is complete! This cool rhino is easy and fun to make. From here you can decorate your Rhino however you’d like.

6.Now for the fancy version! Now for the fancy version! I covering Rods body in a layer of grey art tape. I tried putting it on smooth at first but ended up liking the wrinkly look better. Rhinos are kind of wrinkly! This adds lots of texture to the project. You could use regular masking tape and color markers our just paint your parts.

6.Decorate, decorate, decorate! Next we then covered all the body parts in colored art tape, colored marker will work just as well. I also twisted some tape and trimmed off the end to make a funny smiley face!

What you will need

• 2 clear plastic cups (10-12 oz)
• fine netting
• elmer's glue
• scissors
• razor knife (adults only)
• paper plate

Cut all the way around one of the cups, about one inch from the bottom. Make the finished edge as smooth as possible. (prepare this step in advance if working with a group).

Cut a square of net, a little larger than the opening of the cup - about 4"x4".

Place about 2 Tbs of glue on a paper plate.

Taking the cut cup, rub the mouth of the cup in the glue until the entire rim has glue on it.

Gently stack the cut cup with the glue - inside the clean uncut cup.

Lay the square of net on top of the cup with the glue - gently press the net into the glue. If gaps appear between the net and the cup, additional drops of glue may be needed

Allow this to dry for about 1/2 hour.

Cut around the cup to trim off the excess net.
