Things You'll Need:
- Pipe Cleaners
- Google Eyes
- Step 1
Traditionally spiders are made from black pipe cleaners, but you can use any color. If you've a wide selection to choose from, consider selecting Halloween colors (black, orange, red, white) to work with.
- Step 2
You'll need six pipe cleaners in all. Two for the body, and four for the legs.
- Step 3
For the body, take two pipe cleaners, bend them in half evenly, and then bend again. Your average pipe cleaner is 12 inches long, so this should leave you with pipe cleaners approximately 3 inches long. Twist the pipe cleaners to bind them, and make the body of the spider.
- Step 4
Now that you have the body, take the remaining four pipe cleaners and lay them out horizontally, about a half inch (or less) apart. Place the body in the middle, and make sure all four pipe cleaners touch the body.
- Step 5
When they are all touching, and spaced the way you want them, bend the four pipe cleaners around the top of the body, and twist once at the joint to join the body and legs together. Pull the ends away from the body on the opposite side they started on, and voila! you've got your spider.
- Step 6
Some people like to add eyes to the spiders. Pipe cleaners are notorious for their inability to take glue well, so make sure you have a quick drying, strong bond glue. Preferably super glue or something similar.
- Step 7
If you buy a pack of googly eyes from your local hobby store, you can normally get a wide variety in the store. Pick two eyes you like - same size, or mix it up and select two different sizes - and then glue them to the front of your body. Allow three to five minutes to dry, and done.
- Step 8
Lastly, Take a piece of black string, or whatever color you prefer, tie it around the body between the second and third legs, and then tie to your preferred spot. A tree branch, or door jam, nail, or even a door handle.
